FLASH OPS: ECHO SHOWDOWN – Coverage, details and our talent

We are excited to announce Monkey Bubble is providing coverage for the Overwatch Flash OPS: ECHO SHOWDOWN. This tournament is a showcase for the new hero Echo, and where Blizzard puts on an event, we like to match it with amazing production and talent, all in service of the Overwatch community.

All of our talent are volunteering to provide this coverage, staff that have worked or been a part of on Open Division all the way up to Contenders for years in Overwatch. Whether it be producers, casters or coordinators, each one of them have played an integral role to the development of the T3/2 community. We want to keep delivering broadcasts for community Overwatch events, and we promise to keep delivering the high quality you expect. In return we ask that you consider supporting us on Patreon, twitch or even just following us on twitter and helping us push more great esports events for the community inhouse.

Our Talent.

A veteran caster, boasting Overwatch Contenders and several promenant LANs for the Nerd Street Gamers. Guiding many casters through their careers, working in Broadcast.GG, a role model for many of us in the production community given his outstanding contributions to the scene.

The whole package: Content Creator, ex-contenders player for Triumph Gaming and now he’s making his debut into the Overwatch scene as a caster. Incredibly talented and we are sure you will love him as much as we do.

You’ve seen him everywhere. If you haven’t, you haven’t lived. Appearing on the NUEL broadcasts, Belong Arena Clash, Overwatch Open Division, Contenders Trials, Insomnia and several other LAN events. This man has been around and a big supporter of T3/2 Overwatch. He’ll be casting the finals of the EU showdown.

Kenobi is an incredible caster, featuring on Chinese contenders, EU contenders trials, Open Division, South American Contenders and many community Overwatch events – one of the more recent being the Overwatch Australian fundraiser campaign. You get to experience the full force of kenobi this weekend.

The heavy hitting esports commentator, appearing on the NUEL broadcasts, LAN finals at Nordsken, the Eurocup, broadcasts for Open Division and an impromptu cast at Dreamhack, Sweden. He not only casts in English, but for the DACH community as well.  His take on esports casting is truly unique and leaves people coming back for more.

He’s no stranger, he’s been there since the very start of the Overwatch Scene. Casting Open Divsion, part of Triumph gaming, TGH esports writer and now the social media manager for the Florida Mayhem.

You may have seen her around in T3/2 – she’s been the caster for notable events such as Open Division, Chinese Contenders, South American Contenders, and EU Contenders Trials. There is a reason why people say ‘It’s a Naori cast.’ Memorable and unforgettable caster, great contributer and supporter of the grassroots Overwatch scene.

A notable track record: Belong Arena Clash, British Esports Association events, coach for a bunch of Contenders teams – Angry Titans, Old Man Strength and been a familiar face on some Monkey Bubble events. A big figure in the community, and great caster; definitely worth a watch

Vicki ‘Gottmoxi’ Johnson began casting last year after discovering she was a lot better talking about Overwatch than playing it. She now spends the majority of her time either behind a microphone, behind her pc or micro-analysing every aspect of her existence. Starting on scrims, 2 seasons of Open Division and was most recently shortlisted for (and now proudly bears the title of runner up in) National Student Esports’ Caster of the Term 2020 for her work at the NUEL 2020 Campus Clash.

Our coming talent we picked up, a newer face to the scene. Casting Open Division for S1 and S2 of 2020, being a part of many community broadcasts. We picked him up because he hits hard, and packs a punch with his play-by-play. Hailing originally from the CS:GO community, but also casts Rocket League. Talented and definitely worth your time.

MBLADDER

Introducing the Overwatch Monkey Bubble Ladder

Looking at what we already do as a community, taking feedback from managers/coaches of top tier teams in Overwatch from our staff hub, we decided to reach out to mogul.gg to help us implement and develop a system to cater to the semi-professional community.

It’s not a tournament, it doesn’t have any prizes attached, but what it does give is a great opportunity for teams and players to show off their strength all year round.
With this system, we aim to demonstrate who the top teams really are all year round – exclusive to the North American and EMEA Regions currently.

Benefits:

– Tournament organisers operating in EMEA and NA will be given this list to help aid their selection criteria when forming an invitational tournament *hint*

– Top teams benefit from exposure and notoriety, giving the players and brand value to leverage.

– Managers and staff of teams can use this system to document their team portfolio and list achievements clearly, accurately and beautifully.

– Organising matches becomes easier and a more balanced practice over time, so you are always matched to teams that are your level.

– Instead of booking a scrim, you can now book a competitive match where there are stakes involved all year round. Encouraging and incentivising more rigorous practice and play.

– We broadcast select matches and highlight teams, providing content for T3 and pushing for more competitive Overwatch content, in general, all year round.

– Looking for a last-minute match that doesn’t affect your ladder position is also possible with this system – no more LFS Urgent, you can now see which teams are looking as well.

– Where traditionally social media and word of mouth was used, Mogul.gg has a player portfolio system. Users can list their achievements, and develop a proper professional portfolio online.

Here’s how you get invited.

To be on the ladder:
1) Have your team manager join the staff hub for verification purposes.
If you don’t have a team manager, elect a captain, join the Monkey Bubble T3 tracker server and ask to be verified there.
2) Create a Mogul.gg account.
3) Receive a password from a Ladder administrator to join and sign up through the Monkey Bubble Mogul Hub

An introduction to the Monkey Bubble Ladder:
Once you are invited, you’ve passed the requirement to be on the Ladder.

The initial seeding of the ladder is based off several factors, including recent notable tournament placements, its applicability and ladder availability. During the signup period, we will seed teams to best fit the recent public performance of teams as best we can.

Once you are on the Ladder you can challenge teams a set number of positions above you to claim their spot. You can schedule the matches through Mogul up to four days in advance. We know that many teams book scrims up to 2 weeks in advance. A workaround to this would be to have your scrim turn into a competitive ladder match which you can schedule four days before the actual date. If you cancel challenges more than twice, you are penalised for this and drop 10 ranks.
We recommend you keep Tuesdays and Fridays open for ladder matches for this reason.

If a match was scheduled but needs to be cancelled due to extenuating circumstances i.e collisions with official games, third-party tournaments, contact an administrator through the support channel on the staff hub or T3 tracker. If the Administrator accepts the reason, the ladder match will be cancelled without penalisation or another solution will be given.

If you need to find a match instantly, you can find one through the instant challenge mechanism of the ladder. It doesn’t change your ladder position, but you can advertise that you are looking for a match much easier and broadcast it to every single team, potentially ones that are also looking for matches.

For a more in-depth guide click here.

Player & team portfolios

This is the feature we were the most excited about. We know that many teams venture either to the OW or a staff discord to advertise for manager positions. Managers usually cram as much information as possible into a single copypasta and decorate with discord’s handy emotes and markdown.

What if you had to write that information once, and just post a link? Not only do you advertise the status of your team to discord, but to the wider esports community online. The profile is professional, public and linkable to anyone interested: Organisations, Staff, Recruiters and Scouts being some of the many examples. Record your achievements through Mogul, and automatically track mogul match statistics.

In addition, players and staff get their own profile they can customise, which can supplement their personal esports CV.

Koala Trials

Overwatch Community Koala Trials Fundraiser X Softgiving

Through the Australian wildfire crisis, many of us felt the impacts. Knowing loved ones, colleagues and friends who were all struggling. At Monkey Bubble we also felt the impact, as many of our friends who we play games with and communicate with daily were experiencing loss, hardship and living through what seemed to be a nightmare.

As a company that’s so community driven, we asked what we could do in this time to help those in need and how we could impact this space.

We reached out to a couple of entities and found that most platforms actually charge a fee when transfering the funds raised to the charity of choice. We didn’t like the idea that the money was not going where it was needed the most, and found an alternative.

Softgiving was our platform of choice, helping to power the broadcast. An astounding 0% transaction fee. The only way they actually get money if you tip them in the process of donating.
The people that work there are very down to earth and humble about what they do, how much impact they have had globally. We decided to fully partner with them and they supporting our event as much as they could:  The Overwatch Community: Koala Trials Fundraiser.

The event features all of the Australian Overwatch Contenders teams. Featuring Elfish and AVRL as casting talent for final day of the event.

We raised over $1750.69 USD to be given to the winner’s charity of choice.
Mindfreak having won the tournament, donate the funds generously to The Salvation Army Australia – Queensland and NSW.

EMEA playoffs

Overwatch Open Division EMEA Playoffs: Season 1 2020 – Monkey Bubble Coverage

Overwatch is a big part of how we started, and we love the community. Even though we are expanding to support other titles, like Hearthstone, CS: GO, League of Legends and the upcoming VALORANT title, we still have a soft spot for the Overwatch community.

Our motive was really simple and always will be the same; to highlight the great people in the grassroots esports scene, create memorable events, and bring the community together either through our own in-house events or other events we provide coverage for.

For the first Season of Overwatch Open Division 2020, we provided coverage for the playoffs, arguably the most exciting part of the season. We broadcasted the event on our twitch channel, all the while raising money for Gamers Outreach.

ShopifyEUROCUP-PNG8_1200x1200

Overwatch: Monkey Bubble Eurocup Fundraiser

The Overwatch MB Eurocup fundraiser was an event constructed to help teams in the midst of the OWWC funding crisis of 2019. Teams in the EMEA region were struggling with funds for travel to Blizzcon – Anaheim, LA.

The conception of the event happened a month before launch. With over 87 people working on this project with Monkey Bubble leading the charge; including support from companies, amateur broadcast talent and content creators such as Nordsken, Castersnest, Titan Media ES, Noserino, Death march gaming, and many more.
This event was featured in many outlets across EMEA, the reach being as far as hitting the frontend of the Saudi BNET Launcher for Overwatch. ESPN, The Game Haus, Gosugamer and many more outlets across Europe.

We provided support to teams, giving them the opportunity and clear avenue to promote themselves through a week of intense competition. Ways in which the fans could contribute to their favourite teams getting to Blizzcon included buying team-specific merchandise from our store, contributing directly to the prize pool, and donating directly to each team’s crowdfunding page if they had set one up.

We tried to overcome many of the problems teams which were not funded were facing during the 2019 OWWC, and as a consequence brought together everyone from different countries, cheering for their team to take home the gold at the Eurocup and supporting all of the teams in their bid to get to Anaheim to show off their flag colours.

The format and event details are to be found here.

MB Invitational Banner

Overwatch Monkey Bubble Invitational Tournaments

Monkey Bubble Invitational touraments were constructed by design to help third party tournament communities and teams participating. We wanted to provide another alternative system by which players could find value in the promise of being scoutted, and organisers would be encouraged to increase their production quality to get recognised by us. In return we would push top teams to their tournaments.
Overall encouraging a widespread community effort in Overwatch, bringing people together, giving them the resources they need to acheive their goals in Overwatch.

The invitational tournaments are periodic tournaments happening outside of the regular seasons of Overwatch Open Division, as to not interfere with the Official matches and path-to-pro system set out by Blizzard Entertainment for Overwatch.

In 2019 this was made into reality, where two tournaments with outstanding talent were delivered for the EMEA region with some of the top semi-professional talent in Overwatch.

Overwatch MB Invitationals EMEA #1 May 2019
First Place: Clockwork Vendetta

Clockwork Vendetta is now a team competing in contenders, with a stable management and roster. They rose to fame with their unique off-meta compostion which they ran against the infamous GOATS composition which plagued 2019.

Overwatch MB Invitationals EMEA #2 Sept 2019
First Place: Ex Oblivione

Ex Oblivione described themselves before as a casual T3 team. Relatively unknown, and winning this tournament proved their dominance in the scene. They later went on to win 2nd place in the practice Open Division and now competing in Contenders Trials as of March 2020. Their roster has since changed, and all the players now compete at the Overwatch Contenders level.

“We really appreciate the amount of effort Monkey Bubble puts in to support T3 in so many ways other than just a prize pool (e.g. broadcasts, merch, exposure, etc). The invitational gave us something to work for during the offseason which then also gave us something to look forward to other than Open Division.”

‘Kevh’ – Owner of Ex Oblivione

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to run the North American Invitationals. The changes in the path-to-pro system for 2020 made us rethink about how we administer this tournament, to have the same competitive value.
